Mala and Laska are my Alaskan Malamutes females. They are litter sisters and were born on Christmas day 2004, They are as different as chalk and cheese in looks and personality. Mala, the wolf grey, is a soft lazy cuddly bundle of love who is more than happy lying at your feet. She is also charming funny and extremely affectionate and will do anything for a belly rub or two... or three... from anyone, anytime, anyplace.

Alaska or (Laska or Lasky ) as we call her is determined, extremely intelligent independent and very reserved. She is very vocal and always has something to say. She is definitely a mommies girl and is more than happy to just get cuddles from mom and the family. She is also a tomboy and loves to rough and tumble with the lads, and that’s fine with Mala, as its all too energetic for her.

Now your most likely thinking that Mala and Laska's names are not very inventive but believe me the names picked the dogs.

The girls started off as Vogue & Pagan followed by Makita & Nikita. Then Shakira & Kira along with Skye and Luna, India & China, Gypsy and Mystique, Summer and Autumn, River and Cheyenne, Kali and Kia. The list goes on and on but nothing felt right and the girls didn’t approve either, so they became Mala & Laska.

While the search continued through every Celtic Indian, Greek, Roman and Nordic Goddess, every combination of herbs, spices, flowers, astrological and elemental signs, but nothing seemed to click, so as you see they are still Mala and Laska. We think, and so do the girls, that their names suit them just fine; don’t you?
