Siberian or Malamute ?
Siberian Husky or Alaskan Malamute what’s the difference ? Well I'm not going to stipulate all the breed standards for both breeds here, but I will say that 99% of people call my mals huskies ( its generally something like ohhhhhhhhhhh look at those huskies or ahhhhhhhh I've always wanted a Husky ) well all I can say to that, is I'm not surprised so many poor huskies end up in rescue centers when the dog doesn’t turn out how the owner expected and is a whirlwind that drags them along when out walking.
Anyone who has read a book, or been to a show, or done any sort of research would not mistake a Husky for a Malamute or vice versa, and if you do not know the difference between either breed, I would suggest you become knowledgeable in both breeds before making a decision. Never have I come across two breeds so very much alike, yet so different at the same time.
Mals and Sibes have a lot in common, both are like having an eternal two year around ... nosey ,inquisitive , mischievous stubborn ,backchatting ( yes both breeds are very vocal they how,l yowl ,growl , woo woo , screech, and whine. And despite the myth that they don’t bark, both breeds can bark equally as well as the next dog, so make sure your neighbors find there catalogue of sounds to their liking) .
Before you decide to purchase either of these breeds, it is wise to take time to understand the breed. These dogs are not for the faint hearted, the plod around the block or the average pavement pounders, these dogs thrive on exercise and they need a regular daily dose to promote a happy spirit. A bored dog is a destructive dog and a destructive dog usually gets a whooping and these dogs don’t do whooping, hitting these dogs will totally traumatize them.
Your sibe will become a nervous cowing wreck and your mal can become quite aggressive when challenged, if you don’t have patience, or become infuriated and irate easily, don’t do either breed. And don't assume just because they "learned" something, means they are gonna do it all the time, these breeds require firm and loving guidance and you need to be more stubborn than they are to have one.
Both breeds require serious long term commitment, but if you can stick with it, share your home and your love with them you, will be rewarded with a companion like none you’ve ever known before. And before you know it you will be on the slippery slope of getting another and another, then trading your car in for a four by four or van , looking for a house with a bigger garden or a shack with a couple of acres, you will be addicted. :)
So sibe or mal ? that my friend is totally
down to preference, some love mals some love huskies and many others like
me love them both , I love both breeds simply because they have a spirit
and soul and they can touch your heart and your life, like you could never
image.
